LAB 9
Digestive System and Nutrition

Part 1 Daily Value Graph.

This Daily Nutritional Values graph was from a typical daily diet I like to eat. With this diet and exercise I can usually maintain a constant weight. I was completely honest and found out my diet isn't that good for me at all. I discovered that with my weight I should have a daily calorie intake of between 2500-30000. I'm not even reaching 2000 calories. My Protien was good but my Saturated fat and cholesterol was extremely high. Again I found that my numbers were low were they needed to be high.

My second chart I was able to meet all the daily requirements according to the age, activity, and daily calorie intake. I had to balance a a lot of different foods and add to serving sizes to keep in range.

Part 2 Journal questions.

1.  Explain why the menu of food choices you made is nutritious, meaning the food choices follow the government's recommendations for Calories and nutrients.
The menu choices I made weren't that nutritious. My foods were high in cholesterol and in saturated fat. Although My protein was high my calories were low as well as my carbs.

2. How does a 2 000 Calorie daily menu compare to your recommended Calorie intake amount on the chart? What would you do to your 2 000 Calorie menu to make it better match your recommended Calorie intake?
The recomended daily calorie intake chart was higher than my actual intake.  I would add more healthy calories to my meals to meet the recommended calorie intake. Add more things like mixed nuts that have high healthy calories.

3. How can you use the Nutrition Facts label to make healthy decisions?
You can use nutrition labels on selected foods to compare and contrast nutrition.  These days apps on phones can calculate the amount of calories and even select a good diet for your personal diet. These labels give all the nutrition vales on a daily serving size according to the governments recommendations.

4. Did the menu you created contain the foods you like to eat? Explain why or why not.
On my honest menu all my selections contained food I liked to eat on a daily basis. The second chart I created was a lot different but still contained foods I like to eat. I had to add servings to meet the government requirments.

5.  Do any of the items you selected provide more than 30% in any nutritional area? If so, which foods and which nutrients? Why did you choose those foods?
There were two food items I had that had over 30% nutrition value. Roasted chicken had 35% in cholesterol and trail mix had a couple values over 30%. One being 72% in total fat and 45% in saturated fat. I choose these foods because I enjoy them and they have good values. Trail mix has a lot of good fats and roasted chicken is better than most red meats.

5What did you notice about the nutrients in fast foods?
I noticed that fast foods are very high in cholesterol, fats, calories, and sodium. They are good for high calorie intake if needed but in general there are very few ingredients of fast food that are beneficial.

6.  What did you notice about the food group icons in your Daily Meals area? Did you favor a specific food group? Explain.
I noticed that I pretty much had the same icons in all my meals and snack areas. I favored the fruits the most. In my house we eat a lot of fruit. In the morning we make shakes and we snack throughout the day. Fruits are good source calories and carbs with being very low in sodium and cholesterol.
